WFES EcoWaste unlocks imaginative waste management solutions

This week’s Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2019 will feature a key regional thought leadership platform and exhibition dealing with critical issues related to waste management, recycling and waste-to-energy.

The sixth Edition of EcoWaste, embedded within the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), a key enabler of ADSW, serves as a core pillars of this world-leading sustainability event along with Energy and Climate ChangeWaterSolarGreen Buildings, and Mobility.

With Tadweer (The Centre of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi) acting as Strategic Partner, this year’s WFES EcoWaste will cover an extensive range of topics including artificial intelligence (AI) in waste management, food waste reduction, practical approaches to minimizing the environmental impact of single-use plastics, and the feasibility of “zero waste” policies.

Responding to the growing challenge of waste management, the Abu Dhabi government created Tadweer – Centre of Waste Management in 2008 and tasked it with a key role in the realization of the Emirate’s Vision 2030, said Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Acting General Manager of Tadweer.

“The event will particularly address the challenge of increasing waste levels in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and look to offer the inventive and environmentally friendly solutions needed to manage increasing urbanization. Our efforts will focus on highlighting the emirate of Abu Dhabi as one of the most environmentally responsible cities in the world for its adoption of sustainable development practices across all social and economic sectors.”

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, WFES is a global industry platform connecting business and innovation in energy, clean technology and efficiency for a sustainable future. Organized by Reed Exhibitions and running at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the event’s theme, ‘Embracing the Future, Welcoming Disruption’, reflects its mission to serve as a global sustainability catalyst.

In today’s world, rapid urban expansion requires waste management strategies beyond the quick-fix solutions of waste dumps and landfills. Dumping waste only hides its long-term environmental impact, not least the production of harmful greenhouse gases such as methane. In addition, other waste by-products, such as discarded electrical and plastic goods, can leave behind substances that drip-feed into the environment causing irreversible harm.

Through its strong support for WFES EcoWaste , Tadweer is positioning Abu Dhabi as the MENA region’s premier research and development center for tackling waste management.

Through the integration and monitoring of all waste management services, Tadweer is working with public and private sector organizations to create and enforce waste reduction targets, instill best practice, and devise effective collection and recycling methods”, added Al Kaabi.

A core feature of the event is the WFES EcoWaste Forum. Scheduled for 17 January, and   supported by Tadweer, the forum will bring together leading innovators in waste management with key industry and business players to explore unprecedented access to growing markets and scope for productive partnerships based on next-generation clean technologies.

With more than 1,300 delegates and 50 leading exhibitors expected to attend and 1,000 prescheduled meetings, WFES EcoWaste will further confirm its global reputation as an essential hub for realizing creative new ideas through imaginative stakeholder support and investment.

WFES EcoWaste plays a vital role in encouraging dialogue on effective waste disposal and sustainable recycling to significantly expand the potential for renewable energy generation,” said Al Kaabi.

“The forum and exhibition will meet head on the challenge of applying the most inventive solutions in a way that is viable from a business perspective. Attendees will have an opportunity to network with the leading investors and developers from this region and further afield. They will also be able to benefit from access to other major events being staged as part of ADSW.”

As effective waste management is becoming an increasingly urgent requirement, WFES EcoWaste is therefore the ideal platform for businesses seeking to take advantage of the excellent opportunities available in the MENA region and growing markets further afield.

With Abu Dhabi offering an outstanding example of an environmentally conscious city offering a vision of sustainable, eco-friendly urban planning in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, WFES EcoWaste is facilitating the sharing of knowledge between regional and international partners to provide the most innovative waste management and recycling solutions.
