*Public and private sector decarbonisation strategies to be discussed and best practices identified
January’s World Future Energy Summit will Feature Climate & Environment Forum as UAE Prepares to Host COP28 in 2023
Dubai, UAE XX November: The 2023 edition of the World Future Energy Summit, the region’s leading business event for future energy and sustainability, will feature a specialised exhibition and forum devoted to climate and the environment, held in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCE) and hosted by Masdar as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
The show vertical will, among other things, shine a spotlight on public and private sector decarbonisation strategies and lay the foundations for the United Arab Emirates’ hosting of COP28, the global climate change summit set for November next year.
“We are excited to partner with the Climate & Environment Forum which is expected to take a step-by-step approach to build a sustainability strategy that will help organisations understand how best to reduce their emissions and, importantly, how to monitor them. We also look forward to discussing with the industry best ways to help them build on their initial decarbonisation success, how they can promote sustainable practices internally, and ways to work with their supply chain to ensure indirect emissions are also reduced,” said [name], [designation] at MoCCE.
“The Climate & Environment Forum will explore the practical steps that companies can take to reduce their direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions. Coming as it does at the start of 2023, the same year the UAE will host COP28. We anticipate that a number of participants, local as well as international, will use the forum as a platform to commit to low-carbon emission goals and see the drafting of strategies that meet the expectations of a climate-award youth population that is todays and tomorrow’s conscious consumer base,” said Leen Alsebai, Head of World Future Energy Summit, which is organised by RX Middle East.
Participants at the Forum, which will run at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on Tuesday, January 17, and Wednesday January 18 next year, will also explore the business sector’s response to pressing environmental concerns, including the importance of climate-linked finance, the role of digitalisation and technologies in decarbonisation, and youth expectations around a low carbon future.
Participants will also hear the outcome of the UAE’s National Dialogue for Climate Ambition, which was launched by the Emirates’ Ministry of Climate Change and Environment earlier this year. The National Dialogue was a platform to define and raise sectoral climate ambition and advance all-inclusive participation in the “UAE Net Zero by 2050” strategic initiative to meet the country’s international climate commitments, particularly the Paris Agreement.
Under the initiative, stakeholders in UAE priority sectors, including manufacturing, cement, waste, transport, and energy, were engaged through a monthly assembly that explored sectoral requirements, priorities, and future direction to scale up contributions to carbon emission reductions.
A near 50-strong local, regional, and international speaker platform will examine crucial issues through a packed programme of presentations, panel discussions, and case studies from global consultants McKinsey and Company, Schneider Electric, UPS, and the UAE-based eco-friendly cleaning company Green Touches. Gauri Singh, Deputy Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), will deliver a case study on ‘Planning for Future Hydrogen Use.’
The exhibition will be a laboratory of technical efficiency and innovation breakthroughs in addressing climate threats and their impact.
Norway’s Desert Control is bringing its Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) solution to combat desertification to the heart of a region home to the Arabian Desert, which at 2.3 million square-kilometres, is the world’s fifth-largest desert. “Deserts are spreading so fast that global agriculture may only have 60 harvests left. Twelve million hectares of fertile land perish to desertification annually, according to the United Nations. We have the solution that can revolutionise the war against desertification,” said the company’s President and Group CEO, Ole Kristian Sivertsen.
“LNC can turn desert sand into fertile soil in less than seven hours – a process that previously has taken between seven and 12 years. This is a game-changer, fuelling our hope to make the earth green again by stopping and reversing desertification and soil degradation and at the same time reducing the water usage for green ecosystems by up to 50 per cent.”
Swiss air quality systems provider ARVE believes the exhibition is ripe to introduce its real-time air quality analytics into the Middle East to boost commercial efficiency. “AI and machine learning algorithms can aid productivity within the region’s commercial buildings,” said Claudio Graf, Co-CEO Product & Co-Founder at ARVE. “They can create actionable air quality insights, which will allow building operators to optimise their assets for human health, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency, while significantly reducing their carbon footprint,”
The 2023 Climate & Environment Expo & Forum will take part alongside other show exhibitions and forums focusing on solar and clean energy, water, sustainable waste management, and smart cities, and runs at ADNEC from January 16-18.
