H.E. Abdullah Ali Musleh Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), met with key partners to discuss the Authority’s involvement in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). Al Ahbabi held discussions with Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company; Anca Westley, Director of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week; and Ara Franzian, Group Managing Director at Reed Exhibitions.
Al Ahbabi noted ADWEA’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with strategic partners, in line with its interests and plans. He also highlighted that the Authority’s participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will bolster the emirate’s international standing in innovation, efficiency and sustainable investments, as guided by the Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision.
H.E. went on to state the importance of partnering with Masdar in order for ADWEA to realize its goal of leading the water and electricity sectors by 2020. Al Ahbabi added that ADWEA’s model is currently leading the regional sector in privatisation and attracting global investments, with 11 companies having been founded in collaboration with the private sector over the past 12 years.
ADWEA’s strategic partnership includes the World Future Energy Summit and International Water Summit, as well as the co-located Solar Expo and Energy Efficiency Expo.
Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi acknowledged ADWEA’s role in developing the water and electricity sectors in the region, stressing Masdar’s eagerness to collaborate with the Authority as part of joint efforts to advance the future of energy and sustainable development in the emirate. Al Ramahi added that partnerships with government institutions are central to the week’s success, praising the pivotal role played by ADWEA in supporting Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week as a global platform for governments, policy makers, entrepreneurs and industry experts.
The meeting also addressed areas of cooperation between the two sides, the Authority’s participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week events, and driving innovative solutions to the challenges of energy and water efficiency.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is the largest sustainability event in the Middle East region, and is dedicated to raising awareness of trends from the energy sector that shape global sustainable developments, as well as related economic and technological factors. ADSW provides a platform for the international community to engage with these developments, welcoming more than 30,000 attendees from over 150 countries, and with 600 media personnel covering events. ADSW 2018 will host the 11th edition of the World Future Energy Summit, the sixth International Water Summit, as well as the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). The events form a significant part of ADSW’s role as a platform for promoting international dialogue and cooperation for building a more sustainable future.
