About YFEL
The Young Future Energy Leaders (YFEL) is a program of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and a key element of the World Future Energy Summit. The initiative will encourage students and young professionals to engage with the on-going discussions, participate in the renewable energy debates, and contribute to finding solution for challenges of climate change. The YFEL programme will run in parallel to the WFES exhibition and conference.
Some of the primary goals of the Young Future Energy Leaders are to:
- Raise the engagement of UAE youth and the rest of the world with alternative energy and sustainability;
- Champion the efforts of young professionals already involved in this exciting new area of science and technology;
- Introduce scholars to Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and the opportunities for further study;
- Showcase the new technologies researched by Masdar Institute’s world-class international faculty in conjunction with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT);
- Promote networking among the future energy leaders of the world with their peers, as well as with government representatives, businesses leaders and other organizations active in the area of alternative energy and sustainability.
Special Admission
For the 2010 YFEL program at the World Future Energy Summit, the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology will allocate up to 300 spaces (passes). Half will be allocated to students and young professionals in the UAE. For qualified international students and young professionals there is a minimum registration fee of USD $200. Additional travel and accommodation must be paid by individuals accredited to attend the program.
International applicants must be in possession of a valid passport or travel document that must not expire within six months of the end of WFES.
Applications must include name, age, nationality, gender, home address, name of university, and relevant certificates of qualifications.
The YFEL program passes will be offered to students, and young professionals who meet the following criteria:
- Currently studying/or have completed an under-graduate degree in one of the engineering and/or material sciences from a recognized university of good standing
- A minimum GPA of 3.0
- Submission of a Curriculum Vitae

Qualified applicants will participate in Young Future Energy Leaders, hosted by the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. This will include:
All-access pass to WFES, to include access to opening day keynote sessions, conference program, exhibition and gala dinner
- Access pass to specialized workshops, and seminars designed for YFEL program
- Access to a special networking lounge/area dedicated to YFEL
- Preview site visit to the Masdar Institute’s permanent building and facilities in the word’s first sustainable city, Masdar City
