Benchmarking the cost-effectiveness of a retrofit

The model offered by energy service companies (Escos) can be an extremely cost-effective approach for building owners to take when retrofitting their facility to improve its energy and water efficiency. Escos operate on the promise that once complete, running costs for upgraded facilities decrease significantly. And for building owners, the ability to pay for the upgrade through savings on utility bills is an attractive option. This briefing looks at how to ensure a retrofit programme is cost-effective – particularly for small to mid-sized buildings - sustainable and provides a reduction in the use of utilities.
