Its Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR) solutions use rows of flat, or slightly curved, mirrors to track sunlight and concentrate it onto an overhead, stationary receiver. The receiver contains absorber tubes in which water is converted directly to superheated steam driving a turbine to produce electricity.
AREVA’s modular, scalable and land-efficient SSGs excel under the toughest environmental conditions (UV, high wind, sandstorms, seismicity). A pioneer in the CSP industry, AREVA is the first CLFR company to develop a once-through SSG to deliver superheated steam without intermediate heat transfer fluids, and is the only ASME “S” Stamp certified solar boiler manufacturer.
To expand its suite of dispatchable solutions, AREVA is offering higher-temperature (485oC/905oF), high-pressure (165 bar/2400psia) SSGs for integration with new combined-cycle power plants (ISCC). For a 600 MWe ISCC plant, AREVA’s CLFR integration (typically 70-100 MWe) will provide greater than 40% thermal-to-electric conversion efficiency, increasing plant output by up to 15% with no added emissions.
